Anarcha Speaks : A History in Poems (9780807009215)

Image
The reimagined story of Anarcha, an enslaved Black woman, subjected to medical experiments by Dr. Marion Sims. Selected by Tyehimba Jess as a National Poetry Series winner. In this provocative collection by award-winning poet and artist Dominique Christina, the historical life of Anarcha is personally reenvisioned. Anarcha was an enslaved Black woman who endured experimentation and torture at the hands of Dr. Marion Sims, more commonly known as the father of modern gynecology. Christina enables Anarcha to tell her story without being relegated to the margins of history, as a footnote to Dr. Sims's life. These poems are a reckoning, a resurrection, and a proper way to remember Anarcha . . . and grieve her. Product details Format Paperback | 95 pages

Electromagnetics and Calculation of Fields (9781468405286)

Image
This introduction to electromagnetics emphasizes the computation of electromagnetic fields and the development of theoretical relations. Beginning with the idea that Maxwell's equations are primary, the authors avoid the lengthy discussions of electro- and magneto-statics that are customary in texts on electromagnetism. Thus, after a chapter on the basics of vector calculus, the discussion begins with the electromagnetic field and maxwell's equations; the two following chapters then present the special cases of electrostatic and magnetostatic phenomena. Dynamics is introduced in Chap. 5, and electromagnetic induction in Chap. 6. The discussion of wave propagation and high-frequency fields emphasizes such practical matters as propagation in lossy dielectrics, waveguides, and resonators. The remaining four chapters discuss computational techniques: the finite element method, Galerkin's residual approach, software implementation, and recent developments in computer techniques.

The History and Present State of Virginia : A New Edition with an Introduction by Susan Scott Parrish (9781469607948)

Image
While in London in 1705, Robert Beverley wrote and published The History and Present State of Virginia, one of the earliest printed English-language histories about North America by an author born there. Like his brother-in-law William Byrd II, Beverley was a scion of Virginia's planter elite, personally ambitious and at odds with royal governors in the colony. As a native-born American--most famously claiming ""I am an Indian""--he provided English readers with the first thoroughgoing account of the province's past, natural history, Indians, and current politics and society. In this new edition, Susan Scott Parrish situates Beverley and his History in the context of the metropolitan-provincial political and cultural issues of his day and explores the many contradictions embedded in his narrative. Parrish's introduction and the accompanying annotation, along with a fresh transcription of the 1705 publication and a more comprehensive comparison of emendat

Fluffy Bunnies 2:The Schnoz of Doom : The Schnoz of Doom (9781419719424)

Image
When film-loving twins Joules and Kevin Rockman left their summer camp, they thought their days of fighting evil bunnies from outer space were over. Surely there won't be giant rabbits bent on world domination at their school, right? Wrong. Luckily, these bunnies aren't FLUFFS (Fierce, Large, Ugly, and Ferocious Furballs)-sugar-addicted giant rabbits out to hypnotize and kill. Unluckily, they're worse: the FOOFS (Fierce, Obnoxious, Odoriferous Furballs)-seemingly normal-size rabbits (with extra-large noses) out to take over the world! Can Joules and Kevin save themselves, and their school, from the Schnoz of Doom? Seriously funny New York Times bestselling author Andrea Beaty raises the stakes in this sequel to her zany, pulpy sci-fi farce. And, not to use Famous Last Words, but with illustrations by the great Dan Santat (The Guild of Geniuses, Sidekicks), what could possibly go wrong? Product details

Attack of the Fluffy Bunnies (9781419705199)

Image
When Joules and Kevin Rockman's parents drop them off at Camp Whatsitooya on their way to an International Spamathon, the twins expect a summer of marshmallows, campfires, and canoe trips. What they do not expect is to defend the earth from an invasion of sugar-addicted, murderous, seven-foot-tall rabbits from another galaxy. Happily, the Rockman twins, veteran watchers of the Late, Late, Late Creepy Show for Insomniacs, are unusually well-prepared for dealing with monstrous beings from outer space. If only their fellow campers were so lucky. Product details For ages 0-5 Format Paperback | 184 pages

The Longest Month and Other Poems (9781491787830)

Image
Inside a Toronto apartment with a view of Lake Ontario and a hillside covered with trees, seasoned poet David Murray penned his tenth collection of lyrical verse-somehow meeting a lofty goal of writing one hundred poems in thirty days. While waiting for a rendezvous at a train station with a recently widowed friend, Murray passed the time during the longest month of his life by fueling his creativity and writing mostly sonnets that cover a variety of subjects and emotions. Murray's poems not only explore feelings of anticipation, grief and hope but also the unpredictable beauty of nature as spring attempts to make an entrance, the questions that arise while gazing at old photographs and the unforeseen as distant lovers wait for an event. The Longest Month and Other Poems share a seasoned poet's reflections as he contemplates the past, present and the possibilities of a new beginning. Product details

The Mandibles Lib/E : A Family, 2029-2047 (9781504736015)

Image
With dry wit and psychological acuity, this near-future novel explores the aftershocks of an economically devastating U.S. sovereign debt default on four generations of a once-prosperous American family. Down-to-earth and perfectly realistic in scale, this is not an over-the-top Blade Runner tale. It is not science fiction. In 2029, the United States is engaged in a bloodless world war that will wipe out the savings of millions of American families. Overnight, on the international currency exchange, the "almighty dollar" plummets in value, to be replaced by a new global currency, the "bancor." In retaliation, the president declares that America will default on its loans. "Deadbeat Nation" being unable to borrow, the government prints money to cover its bills. What little remains to savers is rapidly eaten away by runaway inflation. The Mandibles have been counting on a sizable fortune filtering down when their ninety-seven-year-old patriarch dies. Once the
